for the corporate coffee table.

Brief //

Last year, the UNSW Faculty of Law decided to launch a coffee table style book that would promote and contain information about all their postgraduate programs. Referred to as the 'Big Book,' the purpose of this new postgraduate guide was to replace the previous suite of collateral, and the aim was to send the 'Big Book' to law firms around Australia. The client wanted a design that was professional and sleek yet unique and different to their competitors'. In addition, the client was keen to incorporate a certain snowflake graphic into the book's cover design.

Solution //

A landscape orientation was chosen to set the book apart from the usual A4 portrait booklet that universities tend to distribute. For striking contrast, the ultra thin typeface Hairline Gothic was used in conjunction with Helvetica Neue Black for the typesetting of headings. A monochrome palette was carried through the book's layout and design, with the exeption of bold and vibrant imagery - deliberately 'cut out' with a significant letter that related to the content of the page or spread. For maximum impact, a solid black cover was chosen. The snowflake graphic was simply printed with a spot varnish whilst the rest of the cover was set off beautifully with a sophisticated matt celloglaze.

Result //

The 116 page 'Big Book' was produced with a perfect bind, and it was successfully distributed to all the major law firms across Australia.
